Racing Bike Product Development
A customer reached out to us because they had been having issues when it came to developing a new part that would fit an OEM one. This company was Sicass Racing and they were trying to develop a custom motorcycle fender. This custom part would be an add-on to the existing OEM motorcycle fender so it needed to be able to mate up to OEM mounting locations seamlessly. All their other attempts to scan and make adjustments kept failing to assemble correctly when 3D printed. Using our blue light 3d scanning system, we first scanned the original fender to locate all mating surfaces and mounting holes.
Custom Motorcycle Fender Process
After aligning the fender scan to the provided CAD model, one they created, we were able to make adjustments to mounting holes and surfaces where the models interact. By making adjustments to the CAD model, we were able to make a model that fits perfectly to the bike’s OEM fender. Once 3d printed we now had a cost-effective prototype to test on the original fender. The 3D print fits perfectly against all mating surfaces and all mounting holes as designed.
